Being green – Ecofriendly home insurance
Many people are open to be more environmentally conscious now than they were in the past, probably because there is now more support and incentives offered for those who want to be eco friendly. There are all sorts of grants available if you wish to improve your home to make it more ecological and energy efficient. On top of that insurance companies now offer home insurance which focuses on been ecological, environmentally friendly and conscious of what affect their policies have on the environment.
Ecofriendly or green home insurance is not dissimilar to standard home insurance, for example with your standard contents insurance, many people are covered on a ‘new for old’ basis which means you receive a brand new replacement for any damaged items. With eco friendly or green contents insurance, you get the same level of cover the only difference is that your replacements will be ecological like ‘A’ rated energy efficient appliances. Buildings insurance is also the same other than you will have good comprehensive cover for green fixtures such as solar panels or wind turbines, where as normal insurers may not be happy to cover these or if so at a very high premium. On top of that if your property is damaged and warrants a total rebuild, properties will be rebuilt in line with Level 4 of the CSH, which involves the use of sustainable and energy efficient materials.
Ecofriendly home insurance is a great place to start if you’re looking to be environmentally conscious.
