Buying Organic food for your Baby
A report on Pesticide by the British Working Party in 1999 found that more than 12 percent of popular baby foods containing Veg and fruit contained traces of pesticide. This report was working of a very small and limited sample size and therefore the findings are likely to be underestimating the problem, experts believe it could be up to 20 percent higher.
You need not worry though; you can now buy a vast amount of naturally produced organic baby food from your local supermarkets Supermarkets. Remember that by law baby food is not allowed to contain artificial colours or preservatives, therefore don't be fooled into thinking that foods claiming this are anything special, they are just abiding by the law.
The trick is actually in the name. If the name states that the item is Organic, e.g. "Organic Lancashire Hot Pot" then it’s safe to believe this has been grown without pesticides and qualifies as Organic Baby food. If on the other hand the label says "Organic Lancashire Hot Pot with Organic Carrots", then beware, as more than likely only part of this baby food is Organic the rest of this baby food could indeed contain pesticides.
If the labeling is ambiguous then also beware, most organic baby food will advertise this fact to the hilt, those that don't are often hiding something.
Remember it’s important to give your baby the best start in life and feeding them Natural Organic baby food is part of this process. Being strict in terms of what your baby eats doesn't need to take all the fun out of producing baby food, you can still be create and innovative with you ingredients. Remember providing for your baby or toddler is important, but it also should be fun!!!
